Another Philosopher Looks at Quantum Mechanics, about forty years later what Quantum Theory is Not

چکیده

1) Introduction In 1965 Hilary Putnam published the standard work on the interpretation of quantum mechanics, a piece that all philosophers of quantum mechanics of the time had to come to terms with. He laid out one-by-one in a clear non-technical way each of the available approaches to the problem and explained, again non-technically but very exactly, what is wrong with them. In his own final words Putnam took ‘the modest but essential step of becoming clear on the nature and magnitude of the difficulties’ (1965, 158).

Physics. Is quantum mechanics tried, true, wildly successful, and wrong?

Antony Valentini has never been happy with quantum mechanics. Sure, it’s the most powerful and accurate scientific theory ever devised. Yes, its bizarre predictions about the behavior of atoms and all other particles have been confirmed many times over with multi-decimalplace exactitude. True, technologies derived from quantum mechanics may account for 30% of the gross national product of the U...

یک نظریه جایگزین برای مکانیک بوهمی

In this article, a causal model on the basis of trajectory is introduced for description of quantum systems. This theory is structurally very similar to Bohme mechanics, and like Bohme theory reproduces all statistical consequences of standard quantum mechanics. Particle trajectories in this model are different from anticipated ones by Bohme model. Quantum potential (force) form, which is give...

A comparative study about toxicity of CdSe quantum dots on reproductive system development of mice and controlling this toxicity by ZnS coverage

Objective(s):  Medicinal benefits of quantum dots have been proved in recent years but there is little known about their toxicity especially in vivo toxicity. In order to use quantum dots in medical applications, studies ontheir in vivo toxicity is important.  Materials and Methods:CdSe:ZnS quantum dots were injected in 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg doses to male mice10 days later, mice were sacrificed ...

Formalism and Interpretation in Quantum Theory

Quantum Mechanics can be viewed as a linear dynamical theory having a familiar mathematical framework but a mysterious probabilistic interpretation, or as a probabilistic theory having a familiar interpretation but a mysterious formal framework. These points of view are usually taken to be somewhat in tension with one another. The first has generated a vast literature aiming at a “realistic” an...

Six Ways to Quantize (2+1)-dimensional Gravity∗

There is an old joke—feel free to adapt it to your local politics—that if you put three socialists together in a room, you’ll end up with four political parties. The same can be said of physicists working on quantum gravity. Quantum gravity is hard, and in the absence of compelling experimental or mathematical guidance, the past forty years of research has given us a remarkable variety of appro...
